What is Bullying?
Bullying is the intentional infliction of physical or emotional pain by a peer. There is also a mismatch of some sort - the bully is either older, bigger, stronger, more socially secure, more confident, or holds some other type of advantage.
Repeated bullying can lead to negative self-esteem and mental health issues. Kids who have been bullied report struggles with anxiety, loneliness, and depression.
Sadly, some children even take their own lives rather than deal with the effects of bullying.

The statistics surrounding bullying are disturbing:
-
Professionals estimate that over 160,000 children skip school each day to avoid being bullied.
-
Over 3.2 million students are bullied each academic year.
-
Almost 1/5th of students report being bullied two or more times each month.
-
25% of surveyed teachers don't believe there's anything wrong with bullying.
-
68% of children diagnosed with autism report being bullied
-
10% of students dropout of school due to bullying.
The Bully Defense System at Bellicose Martial Arts will teach your child to stop - de-escalate - resolve - handle conflict of physical boundaries, but if necessary, as a last resort, the use of very effective defensive skills.
A kid's Muay Thai Kickboxing program with bully de-escalation training helps children build confidence, physical fitness, discipline, and practical social skills - while emphasizing that the strongest response to conflict is often avoiding or safely ending it. This program teaches age-appropriate striking and movement alongside communication, self-control, situational awareness, and help-seeking skills.

We believe that children should have both the
physical and verbal tools to avoid being bullied.
Bellicose Martial Arts' Bully Defense System (Kids Muay Thai Kickboxing and Bully De-escalation Program) is designed to help children become confident, respectful, and resilient both on and off the mats. Through structured, age-appropriate Muay Thai Kickboxing training, students develop coordination, fitness, focus, balance, discipline, and the confidence that comes from learning a challenging new skill.
Just as importantly, the program teaches children how to recognize bullying, respond calmly under pressure, set clear boundaries, avoid unnecessary confrontation, and seek help from trusted adults. Students learn that martial arts are not about starting fights or proving toughness - they are about self-control, responsibility, and protecting themselves and others when no safer option is available.

Bully De-Escalation Focus:
Children are taught a simple, repeatable response sequence for difficult social situations:
-
Stay calm - pause, breathe, and avoid responding with anger or panic
-
Use words - give a clear, confident instruction such as, "Stop. I don't like that," or "Leave me alone."
-
Create space - move away, maintain distance, and avoid being drawn into an argument or physical confrontation
-
Get support - tell a teacher, parent, coach, school staff member, or another trusted adult
-
Use physical skills only for safety - martial arts techniques are taught as a last-resort safety tool, never as a way to retaliate, punish, or win an argument

This approach helps children understand that walking away, reporting a problem, and controlling their behavior are signs of strength - not weakness.
